    A COMPARATIVE EVALUATION OF TRIPLE FREQUENCY NOTCHED UWB ANTENNA

    A comparative study of compact coplanar-waveguide (CPW) fed ultrawideband (UWB) printed monopole antenna (PMA) with triple frequency notching achieved by using single ring split ring resonators (SRR) is presented and validated here on two different substrates such as FR4 Epoxy material and RT Duroid 5870 material. Here also a comparative design study made on two substrates in order to study the effect of permittivity and height of substrates on this antenna. Here the antenna loaded with three single ring SRRs to create triple band notches, in 3.5 GHz for WiMAX, 5.5 GHz for WLAN, and 7.9 GHz for X-band satellite communication systems, respectively. Return loss and voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) are used to show the effect of these rings. The measured result shows a close correlation to the theoretical results

    Effectiveness of Competency Training Program on Modified Early Warning System (MEWS) upon the Knowledge of Nurses in Selected Hospitals, Chennai

    Background: Adverse events results in unintended harm to the patients including permanent disability and death. MEWS was introduced to identify and document the deteriorating patients in hospital settings. Adequate training and education of nurses will enhance early recognition and response in preventing adverse events. Objective: The objective of the study was to assess the effectiveness of competency training program on MEWS among nurses. Methodology: A Quasi experimental study was conducted among nurses who were working in inpatient units of selected hospitals, Chennai. 140 nurses were selected as participants out of which (n=70) is constituted to experimental group and (n=70) was constituted to control group. Pre-test knowledge was assessed in both groups. Competency training program on MEWS was given to experimental group of nurses and post test was assessed after one month. Results: The mean post-test knowledge scores was significantly higher in experimental group (M=18.2) to that of control group (M=10.6) which shows the effectiveness of competency training program on MEWS with (t=22.29, p<0.001). Conclusion: The present study reveals that Competency training program on MEWS had a significant increase in the knowledge of nurses in the experimental group

    Assessment of quality of life in patients on hemodialysis and the impact of counseling

    Chronic renal failure is an irreversible progressive condition responsible for high morbidity and mortality. Because it requires life-long treatment in the form of renal replacement therapy, the quality of life (QOL) of patients may significantly impair. Studies have revealed that patient education can play a significant role in improving the QOL in these patients. The primary objective of this study was to assess the QOL of patients on hemodialysis by using the World Health Organization Quality of Life assessment scale and also to study the impact of patient counseling in these patients. Fifty patients were selected for the study and they were randomly divided into two groups, control and test; counseling was given to the test group of patients. There was an increase in score in all the four domains (physical, psychological, environmental and social) among the test group when compared with the control group. Also, we found that the psychological domain showed significant increase in score compared with others. Our findings demonstrate that patient counseling plays an important role in improving the QOL by changing their psychological thinking and bringing them toward spirituality

    Studying the effects of Nb on high-temperature deformation in TiAl alloys using atomistic simulations

    Intermetallic γ(TiAl)-based alloys find their application as high-temperature materials for aero engine and automotive components. Microstructure optimization and microalloying play key roles in optimizing these alloys. Several pioneering experimental works showed improved mechanical properties of γ(TiAl)-based alloys containing Niobium (Nb). Despite Nb being a key alloying element, its contribution remains debated, if not least understood, due to the TiAl microstructure's complexity with hierarchical interfaces. This work examines the effects of Nb on the high-temperature deformation behavior of TiAl alloys using atomistic simulations. These revealed that Nb alloying retarded the stress-induced phase transformation of γ → α2, favoring a refined microstructure with the dislocation sources from microstructure boundaries and interfaces at high temperature and improving thus the ductility. Our microstructure-informed atomistic models reveal a comprehensive picture of the underlying nanomechanical events
